Colombia’s capital sits at 2,600 meters, ringed by the Andes — a city of museums, a serious food scene, and neighborhoods that shift completely block to block. The Gold Museum and the historic La Candelaria district anchor most first visits, but Bogotá rewards travelers who stay longer than a night or two.

A couple of hours north, Boyacá trades the city for colonial towns, highland farmland, and some of the best-preserved colonial architecture in the country — Villa de Leyva in particular is worth the drive.
